SAND DUNES STABILIZATION
INTRODUCTION
Sand dune is a ridge of sand created by the wind, found in deserts or near lakes and oceans. Sand dunes can be stabilized by a number of methods in which herbaceous plantation method is the best one in which these plants are grown at a distance for effective control of sand dunes. Few distracts of KP Karak, D. I. Khan, Lakki Marwat have sand dunes.
BENEFITS OF SAND DUNES STABILIZATION
- The dunes provide a habitat for many rare and endangered species of both plants and animal life.
- They are also used to protect soil from erosion.
- These dunes across the world are threatened by human activity and continue to dwindle, harming both endangered species and the life of the beach.
Stabilizing 230 acres of non-culturable land
TARGETED IMPACTS
- About 230 acres of non-culturable land will be stabilized through sand dunes plantation.
- Kana plants will be harvested for the sand dunes stabilization.
- Approximately 460 labors will be engaged in plantation and stabilization of the sand dunes.
- The local population can generate income by making homemade items from Kana plants.
